You’re just skin, Roxxy

This work is the product of my residency with The Journal of Association of Teachers of Mathematicians. As the artist in residence, I responded to the essays in the February 2024 edition of the journal. In particular, I drew from Tandi Clausen-May’s Modelling and understanding divisibility tests at The Institute for Mathematical Pedagogy (2024). In this, Clausen-May uses 3D models to understand divisibility tests. Whilst she converts numerical values into 3D blocks, I decided to reverse this function and transform my persona Roxxy to become two dimensional. Inspired by Lady Cassandra’s character in the TV franchise Doctor Who, I created a stretched face and installed it onto a trampoline. This was to inject a performative element, which I explored with people bouncing on it in my subsequent work Jump! What does the moon taste like? (2024).
